Bentley Cars

These days, Bentley's cars are on the news for various reasons. Firstly, the exorbitant price of the models makes it largely inaccessible to the commoners. Secondly, if you are lucky enough to own one of them, you might have an interest on the flexible fuel engines incorporated within these cars. Traditional automobile manufacturers are still struggling to perfect diesel and petrol engines for their latest offerings. On the other hand, here is one company that began thinking out of the box - throughout all these years; the manufacturer has managed to gain rapid attention among the rich as well as the elite.

Back in 1912, W.O. Bentley along with ample assistance from his sibling began to design and develop fast cars. The duo just had some ideas about what to implement on their cars; one should note that they even went to the extent of displaying a dummy car in one of the motor exhibitions conducted during that era. The brothers had good experience designing rotary engines for airplanes. However, with dexterity, they began to incorporate smaller versions of those engines in their initial offerings.

People of that era did not read automobile magazines and most importantly, they did not have access to the internet. In order to generate high levels of interest, the duo began to use their cars for the Grand Prixes conducted in Britain. Needless to state, but those efforts were paid to the fullest in the oncoming years!

There are certain characteristics to the engines developed by this automobile manufacturer. They have high performance. They also boasted of ruggedness and reliability. The competitors focused on developing lightweight engines. However, the diligent engineers saw that as a challenge - they wished to create engines that were heavy but doubly as powerful as the offerings of the competitors. The company still follows this paradigm.

Due to tough economic conditions, the company had to face bankruptcy many times. It was once under the control of Rolls Royce. In the 90s, a fierce war took place in between Volkswagen and BMW for the ownership of the company - the former could win the original company for a hefty price. However, an agreement highlighting the design and implementation of BMW engines took place in between Volkswagen and BMW. Some of the well-known cars that came out of the factories of the company include the Bentley Azure, the Bentley Brooklands and the Bentley Continental. These three core platforms are still being widely modified by the establishment to come up with two-door and four-door convertibles, coupe and saloons!

Owning a Bentley is still a dream that has to come true for many across the globe. Yes, the sales are averaging with the company finding many clients in the Europe, the USA and the Middle East. Just as they say, increasing the number of cylinders will boost the peak output power of the car to significant levels. Bentley concentrated on developing six cylinder and eight cylinder engines (V6 and V8) primarily. Some of their recent offerings came with 12 cylinder (W12) engines, likewise.
